Legal definitions
In El Salvador, “childhood” includes from conception to 12 years old, and “adolescence” spans from ages 12 to 18 years old. Childhood includes “early childhood,” up to 8 years old. The age of consent for sexual activity is 18 years old.
Child sexual exploitation, child sexual abuse, and child pornography are comprehensively defined in relevant laws. Enticement is referred to as the “corruption of minors.”
Sexually explicit conduct, computer-generated CSAM, and sextortion are undefined. However, the law appears to address computer-generated CSAM through its prohibitions on “realistic images depicting a child or adolescent engaging in sexually explicit behavior or real or simulated images” depicting child or adolescent nudity for sexual purposes.
